Webinar on Preparedness and Partnership for Prosperous South Asia Population, Ecosystems and Cascading Impacts, 2027-2050
When a glacial lake floods upstream, how quickly can communities downstream be warned?
On 4 November 2026, Change Initiative organized “Prosperity, Preparedness and Partnership for South Asia”, a webinar exploring how disaster risks could evolve across eight South Asian countries through 2050.
From Himalayan glaciers and shared rivers to the Sundarbans and Indian Ocean coral reefs, the presentation showed how hazards can cross borders and disrupt water supplies, food production and livelihoods.
Ahead of COP31, Change Initiative called for countries to monitor shared ecosystems together and ensure that upstream warnings reach downstream communities in time. The presentation also examined how loss and damage finance can better reflect what communities lose, including livelihoods and the ecosystems they depend on.
We extend our sincere thanks to our designated speakers for sharing their expertise and regional perspectives.
