South Asia sits at the frontline of the climate crisis, yet the voices shaping climate finance decisions are often distant from the communities facing the greatest risks. The South Asia Stakeholder Consultation on the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) brings together civil society, researchers, financial experts, and practitioners from across eight countries to reflect on how global climate finance mechanisms are working on the ground and where they are falling short. The dialogue highlights the region’s growing exposure to climate hazards, infrastructure vulnerabilities, and fiscal pressures, all unfolding alongside rising energy demand and development challenges.
This consultation captures regional perspectives at a critical moment as international climate finance systems evolve. Participants examined how CIF investments are shaping energy transitions, resilience building, and development pathways in South Asia, while raising urgent concerns about debt-heavy financing models, slow disbursement processes, and limited access for local actors. By consolidating these insights into a structured outcome report, the initiative seeks to ensure that future climate finance decisions better reflect South Asia’s realities strengthening accountability, equity, and regional resilience in one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable regions.
